Born in Toronto to Scottish immigrants, Lynn moved to London young enough to start school there and considers it to be home. Aside from a brief detour with her family to Montreal, Lynn grew up in London where she completed her education, including her B.A. (with a major in Psychology) and B.Ed. at the University of Western Ontario, at King’s College and Elborn College respectively.
Along with obligatory part time jobs in retail and as a dishwasher and waitress, Lynn spent many summers at CPRI working with special needs children. When teaching jobs were scarce, she fell back on this experience, securing a job working with special needs adults in Woodstock, Ontario.
In the ensuing years Lynn married her best friend and moved back to London where she got a job selling advertising space in a trade magazine, in a publishing house in Exeter, Ontario. She was working here when her first child, a daughter, was born. While her second child, a son, was on the way the magazine she worked on was sold and Lynn relied on substitute teaching while her husband completed his Phd.
Lynn then became involved with co-operative housing, working as an Educational Consultant to emerging co-operatives, filling the units and training the members on how to conduct business, including the training of the Board of Directors and various committees. She also worked part time as the Co-ordinator for one co-operative.
When her husband secured a position as a Business Consultant in Toronto, the family relocated to Burlington where Lynn once again became a substitute teacher, an arrangement that made her available to her children before and after school.
It was during this time that Lynn began to write, something she had dreamed of doing for years. Her first completed work was Twin Harvest, a novel which explores the special relationship between twins and how it ends up saving one of their lives. This was followed by a second novel with some of the same characters, Dance for Fools, a study in the emergence of a female serial killer.
When a friend, who was unable to read scary books, asked Lynn to write something that she could read, the Carly Kitchings series was born. Carly is a 40-something-year-old kindergarten teacher who has a very complicated relationship with her rather difficult mother. Carly’s relationship with her mother is in no way a reflection of Lynn’s relationship with her own mother, who passed away very young.
Lynn and her husband share a love of cats and a passion for travel. They have been fortunate enough to visit all 10 of Canada’s provinces and all seven continents, with plans for many more trips to come.
Lynn also volunteers at FunTrivia.com as an Editor.
Lynn’s favourite books are murder mysteries and her favourite authors, at time of writing, are Greg Iles, Kathy Reichs and Jonathon Kellerman. She also is an avid knitter. She spends many hours with her husband, watching (or really listening to) movies and television shows while knitting. Her favourite shows are also crime or police procedurals, with Criminal Minds currently topping the list.
Selected fantasies, such as the Harry Potter series, Star Wars, The Hunger Games series and The Lord of the Rings trilogy also rank high both in print and onscreen.
